Two illegal workers found at an Indian restaurant in Herne Bay have been arrested after a raid last night.

Immigration enforcement officers visited the Tulshe Restaurant in Sea Street just before 10pm yesterday.

They found an Indian national, 29, was working in breach of his multi visit visa and a 48-year-old Bangladeshi national had entered the UK illegally.

Both men were arrested and transferred to an immigration detention pending removal from the UK.

Owners now face a potential fine of up to £40,000 if the employers cannot prove that the correct right-to-work checks – such as asking for a passport or work permit – were carried out.

Richard Lederle, assistant director for immigration enforcement in the south east, says their visit to the restaurant was an intelligence-led operation.

"We take robust action against employers in Kent who choose to flout the rules," he said.

"Using illegal labour is not victimless. It cheats the taxpayer, undercuts honest businesses and cheats legitimate job seekers of employment opportunities.

"All of our operations are intelligence led and I would encourage people with detailed and specific information about illegal immigration to contact us."
