Police are investigating a spate of thefts of metal from properties in the district, including a church hall.

Copper piping worth £200 was taken from the back garden of a house in Mill Lane, Herne, overnight on Sunday.

Also over the weekend copper piping worth £50 was stolen from a church hall in London Road, Canterbury.

On Tuesday, August 23 a length of copper used as a lightning conductor and worth £100 was found missing from a building in Tower Hill, Whitstable.

Police inspector Vicki Tyler said: "Offenders may at first glance appear to be legitimate workmen when in fact they have criminal intentions.

"Thieves will often need a vehicle to carry the metal away. We are asking people to report any suspicious behaviour to police."
