The police have issued a warning to parents and children after a man approached a girl as she walked to school.

The Herne Bay High School pupil reported that she had been approached in Bishopstone Lane yesterday.

Alerts have been sent to parents at other local schools, including nearby Briary Primary School.

Kent Police spokesman Nicola Foreman confirmed officers have carried out enquiries, but said no offences were committed.

The abuse happened at Herne Bay High School

In a statement she said: “While there is no suggestion the man had any sinister intentions towards the girl, we would always encourage members of the public to remain vigilant.

“We would also encourage parents to speak to their children to make sure they are aware of the potential risks of stalking to strangers.

“If they are approached or have any concerns about people behaving suspiciously they should report it immediately to their parents or school teachers who can then report it to the police.”
