We back BAYsics campaign

Get back to BAYsics - that is the plea from Herne Bay town centre manager Chris West.

He is appealing for people to support the local shops or else the town will.

We are backing his campaign which looks at recreating a community feeling.

“Herne Bay in Victorian times was one of the major seaside resorts in the country,” he said. “Why can’t we get back to that? I think sometimes people forget what is in their own town centre.”

The convenience of out-of-town one-stop supermarkets has, says Mr West, not only taken the income out of the High Street but removed the pleasure of coming in to it.

“We want a return to the old-fashioned sense of community in the High Street when people knew their butcher, their baker.”
