Woman's ordeal after 100ft cliff plunge
Published: 00:00, 07 June 2007
A WOMAN plunged 100ft (30m) down a cliff at Reculver, near Herne Bay, but survived with just broken bones.
She then spent three hours trying to find a mobile phone signal to call 999. Coastguard teams from Herne Bay and Margate joined the rescue operation on Wednesday night before an RAF helicopter was scrambled.
The woman, who has not been named, was airlifted to hospital early on Thursday but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The hills around historic Reculver Towers are a popular spot for ramblers and dog walkers. The cliffside is not sheer but the slope treacherous.
Last year a dog survived after it fell down into the sea at the spot and was rescued by its owners.
