Pensioner's purse snatched in Aldi in King's Road, Herne Bay, as police warn shoppers to beware of distraction thefts

A pensioner had her purse stolen after being distracted by a man as she shopped at a supermarket.

The victim, a woman in her 70s, was shopping in Aldi in King’s Road, Herne Bay at about 3.30pm on Monday.

She was approached by a man, who spoke to her.

When she went to pay for her shopping, she realised her purse, which contained cash and cards, had been stolen.

One of the cards was later used to withdraw cash from the victim’s account.

Anyone with information about the distraction theft is asked to call Kent Police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/216910/20.

Shoppers are being reminded to stay vigilant in the run-up to Christmas

A police spokesman added: "In the run-up to Christmas, officers are urging people to take steps to protect their belongings while out shopping.
