A dinghy beached in the middle of a town road was the rather bizarre sight greeting motorists today after it is thought to have fallen off a trailer.

The stricken vessel was caught on camera in Herne Bay as people looked on in disbelief.

A video from Simon Cook shows the boat beached in the middle of a junction – more than a mile from the sea.

Motorists can be seen manoeuvring around the unexpected obstacle, which is sitting in the middle of Mickleburgh Hill, at the junction with King Edward Avenue.

Police are also there to aid in the boat's recovery.

Mr Cook said: "I live nearby and was just walking to post a letter when I saw it.

"I have no idea how it happened but it looks like it slipped off the back of the trailer.

"The two men who owned it were nearby talking to police."

Police have been contacted for comment.
