Hundreds of litres of alcohol got poured down the drain thanks to a police crackdown on underage drinking in parts of Kent.

Beer, spirits, and alcopops were seized by neighbourhood police officers in Rainham and Herne Bay over the last month.

The operation in both areas was so successful that police will continue patrolling the hot spots during the summer.

The two-week crackdown in Rainham also resulted in two people being cautioned for possessing cannabis and two nuisance bikers warned.

Sergeant Stacy Robson said: “We will continue to target those who try to blight peoples’ lives by acting anti-socially.

"Through ongoing consultation with people, utilising the PACT process and working with our partners we are making Medway an even safer place to live.”

A large amount of alcohol was also seized when up to 200 people attended a house party in Beltinge, near Herne Bay, on April 19.

Insp Gordon Etheridge said: “We have seen a reduction in the number of problems reported to us but it is disappointing to see that young people are still getting hold of alcohol, some of it seemingly supplied with the full knowledge of parents."
