Organisers are making the final preparations for this year’s carnival celebrations.
The annual parade – taking place on Saturday – will be the second big event in August, following the success of the cartoon festival in the Bandstand on Sunday.
Carnival chairman Andy Birkett said this year 10 groups have already signed up, but there is still room for more groups and organisations to take part.
He said: “It’s been hectic as always but there are lots of entries coming in, and it’s beginning to look like quite a nice procession.
“There will certainly be plenty of colour and plenty of noise. This year it’s a nice mix between regular participants and those taking part for the first time.
“Hopefully we will have the weather that we’ve just had this weekend and then it will all blend in quite nicely.
“We know there are a lot more clubs and associations around town that could step forward. We’d be happy to let them take part, even if it is just a walking entry in the parade.
“It gives them a great opportunity to advertise what they do, or let people know about an upcoming event or show.”
The procession will be walking from Lane End, along the seafront to Canterbury Road, and then along the High Street before finishing in Sea Street.
Mr Birkett added: “I think as always the highlight will be the procession itself. The carnival court and Miss Herne Bay always get a great reception from people in the town.
“I’m excited to see the entries from clubs like the Greenhill Gymnastics club and the Music Theatre Society, and others such as the Diver’s Arms always enter with passion.”
The procession starts at Lane End at 6pm, and afterwards there will be a party at the Kings Hall. Tickets are still available from Peters Produce, Kids Korner and the Activity Box, or on 01227 364836.
