Six people have been taken to hospital after a serious crash involving four vehicles.
Two air ambulances were called, and took away two female casualties, with a further four injured people were taken away in land ambulances.
Motorists are being warned to expect disruption after the crash, which happened just before 2pm on the London-bound Thanet Way near the A291 Canterbury Road.
A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 2pm following a collision on the London carriageway of the A299, close to the turn off for St Nicholas At Wade.
"The incident involved four vehicles. Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service are at the scene and an air ambulance has also landed. Road closures are in place."
A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said three fire engines have been working with other emergency services to help several passengers who were trapped and waiting to be rescued.
