A callous burglar pretended to have been involved in a motorcycle crash to get inside his victim's house.
The conman knocked on a door in Mortimer Street, Herne Bay and claimed he was injured.
Detective Sergeant Richard Allen said: "The occupant let him in and offered him a drink.
"It was only after he had gone that the occupant noticed a Seiko diver's watch worth £400 had gone."
The burglary happened between 5.30am and 5.45am yesterday.
The man was described as white, of a slim build, about 5ft 10in tall and aged between 25 and 30.
He had brown hair and was unshaven and was wearing a blue jacket and grey tracksuit bottoms.
DS Allen is urging people to be vigilant and to always check the identity of anyone at their door.
He added: "Don’t be afraid to turn people away and please look out for elderly and vulnerable neighbours and relatives."
Anyone who recognises the man's description or who has information is asked to call police on 01843 222289 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting reference number ZY/5659/17.
