THE death of a 64-year-old man who collapsed after being assaulted twice over Christmas is not being treated as suspicious.
David Ruffles, of Poplar Drive, Greenhill, Herne Bay, was found dead at an address in Mortimer Street, Herne Bay, on Sunday.
Investigating officers were told Mr Ruffles had been assaulted by two men in Mortimer Street at around 11am on Christmas Eve and had suffered cuts to his head and bruising to his knees.
He was also the reported victim of another attack at an address in Poplar Drive on Boxing Day, where he was punched and beaten with a stick by two men.
However, a post mortem examination carried out on Wednesday concluded that the injuries he suffered were not linked to his death and the case is no longer being treated as suspicious.
A report will now be sent to the coroner to see if she wishes to hold an inquest.
CCTV tapes will now be viewed by officers looking into the alleged assaults on Mr Ruffles.
Anyone who witnessed either of the assaults, or has any more information, is asked to telephone Det Sgt Fred McCormack on 01227 762055.
