Herne Bay Road, Sturry, near Canterbury, closed after car crashes into ditch

A driver had to be cut free from their car after crashing into a ditch in icy conditions.

Fire crews and paramedics were called to the incident in Herne Bay Road, Sturry and closed the road.

The driver was cut from the car and treated by an ambulance crew in the village near Canterbury on Saturday morning.

A fire service spokesman said: “Three fire engines attended and crews used hydraulic equipment to rescue a person stuck in a car and then a longboard to extricate them.

“One person was passed into the care of paramedics. The cause is not yet known.”

An ambulance service spokesperson confirmed paramedics were called to the incident.

“Clinicians treated and took the female passenger of the vehicle with back pain to William Harvey for further assessment and treatment,” they said.
