A rail commuter is pictured wading through floodwater at Herne Bay station after heavy downpours caused the underpass the fill up to a foot deep in parts.

The photo has been tweeted by @hernebaybob this morning.

It shows a man braving the depths with plastic bags over his feet. A member of Southeastern staff stands in the background, with more bags ready to hand out.

Services are not thought to have been affected.

A spokesman for Southeastern said: “Heavy rainfall last night caused flooding at numerous locations across our network.

"The underpass and ticket office at Herne Bay station was no exception and the water was a foot deep in some parts.

"Trains were still operating from Herne Bay despite the flooding and to assist passengers to the platforms, our staff at Herne Bay helped each passenger individually through the flooding and also gave them plastic bags in an attempt to keep their feet dry.”
