The floodgates in East Kent have been closed amid fears that the tide will be higher than predicted.
Gates in Herne Bay and Whitstable will be closed as a "precautionary measure", Canterbury City Council have announced.
A spokesman said: "The 4am tide early tomorrow (Monday 13 April) will be higher than predicted.
"The wind is swinging round to a northerly, so we will be closing some of our floodgates in Herne Bay and Whitstable.
"This is a precautionary measure at the moment.
"Some floodgates will remain open for now but this doesn't mean we have forgotten to close them.
"The forecast will be monitored very closely in the coming hours and if necessary, we will close further floodgates.
"Our staff will be out monitoring the 4am high tide and operating the sluice gates on the coastal rivers to stop the sea flooding inland."
