As teenagers prepare to party after their GCSEs, one has set his sights on a remarkable solo voyage.
Jack Daly is to navigate his way around 1,500 miles of coastline as he circumnavigates Great Britain.
The 16-year-old, from Herne Bay, sets sail on June 21, the day after his last exam.
He said: “I’m looking at about eight weeks but 10 is my cut-off because that’s when I go back to school.
“For two years I’ve been talking about sailing round Britain – it’s something I’ve always fancied – and I thought if I don’t do it now, while I don’t have other commitments, I may never do it.”
“My main reason for doing it is to raise as much money as possible for Sailability, which I think is a great cause. I’m hoping to raise £5,000.”
Sailability is a charity that provides people with disabilities the chance to get out on the water and experience the thrill of sailing.
