A 24-year-old man has been brought back to Kent from Italy after being extradited following a rape investigation.

Rafiullah Hamidy, 24, was detained in Taranto, in the Apulia region of southern Italy, and was flown back to the county yesterday.

Hamidy, formerly of High Street, Herne Bay, has subsequently been charged with raping a woman in the Northwood Road area of Ramsgate last September.

He is due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court today.
