Police and a coastguard helicopter carried out a three-hour seafront search last night following reports of concerns for the welfare of a person.
Emergency services were spotted in Herne Bay yesterday evening, with police called just after 7pm.
Coastguard rescue teams from Herne Bay and Margate also attended, as did the RNLI Whitstable lifeboat and a helicopter which set off from Lydd at 8.30pm.
Despite the heavy response, crews were unable to locate anybody in the area, with police now saying enquiries are underway into the report.
A police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called at 7.08pm on January 30 to concerns for the welfare of a person in Herne Bay.
“Officers attended the seafront area with the coastguard and completed a search. Nobody was located and enquiries are underway into the original report.”

“Coastguard Rescue Teams from Herne Bay and Margate are in attendance, as well as a HM Coastguard helicopter and Whitstable RNLI Lifeboat. Kent Police are also on scene.”
