DETECTIVES have begun an investigation after a postman was robbed of his red Royal Mail post van.
Two robbers - one white and the other black - approached the van driver in Cavendish Street, Herne Bay, shortly before 10am on Friday.
The driver was punched about the face and head and the robbers then stole his small post van, believed to contain mail and special delivery packages.
Police patrols began searching for the van and were assisted by the Surrey Police helicopter.
Just before midday a police patrol found the van abandoned in Underdown Road, Herne Bay. The van was secured for examination.
The postman was taken to hospital in Margate with facial injuries. They are not thought to be serious.
The white man is described as in his early 30s, between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall, of slim build, and was wearing a navy baseball cap and black clothing.
The black man is described as in his late 20s to early 30s, of stocky build, with short dark hair. He wore a blue tracksuit with white writing on the side.
Anyone who saw the men, knows their identities or has information about the robbery, is asked to contact Kent Police on 01227 762055, or CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
