A man in his 60s has died after being hit by a train near a railway station.
Emergency services were called to railway tracks in the Hillborough area of Herne Bay just after 10pm on Friday.
British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed today the victim - a man in his 60s - died at the scene.
A spokesman said: "BTP officers were called at 10.23pm to an area of track near Herne Bay station following a report of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended but sadly the person, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead."
The railway line was blocked and Southeastern trains from Faversham to Ramsgate and Margate were diverted via Dover on Friday night, while the incident was dealt with.
A limited replacement bus service was also arranged.
Meanwhile, those on board the affected train were stranded just outside Whitstable for nearly three hours before a rescue service was able to pull up alongside it and collect them. They were then taken back to Faversham railway station.
The man's next of kin have been informed, and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
