A man who died after being hit by a train near a railway station was a retired police officer, an inquest opening has revealed.
Peter Todd, 60, was pronounced dead by British Transport Police at 11.45pm on Friday, June 28 after being struck on railway lines in Herne Bay, a hearing at the Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone was told.
A post-mortem was carried out and the cause of death for Mr Todd, of Reculver Road, Herne Bay, was given as multiple injuries.
As officers dealt with the incident, the railway line was blocked and Southeastern trains from Faversham to Ramsgate and Margate were diverted via Dover.
A limited replacement bus service was also arranged.
Meanwhile, those on board the affected train were stranded just outside Whitstable for nearly three hours before a rescue service was able to pull up alongside it and collect them.
They were then taken back to Faversham railway station.
Assistant coroner Katrina Hepburn adjourned a full inquest until October 23.
