The heartbroken husband of a brave cancer sufferer says his world has been turned upside down after she died this week aged just 27.
Natasha Neame, of Lancaster Gardens, Beltinge, was told she had six months to live in March following her diagnosis with rare adrenal cancer in 2014.
The former carer – who underwent two rounds of failed chemotherapy and was forced to stop working at the former St George Residential Care Home in West Cliff, Whitstable, because of her diagnosis – died on Tuesday morning surrounded by her family at the Pilgrims Hospice in Canterbury.
Her husband Nick, 54, of Lancaster Gardens, Beltinge, said: “Natasha was my world – it has been turned upside down and there will be a huge void to fill.
“She was a strong, determined person and she was so kind; she thought of everyone first before herself.
“Since I met Natasha I have had the best years of my life – she has made such a difference to me and I think our characters complemented each other.”
The pair, who met at the Divers Arms in 2012 before marrying two years later, renewed their vows in April following a campaign to raise money for the ceremony.
The renewal was held at the Judd’s Folly Hotel in Faversham.
Nick added: “I was always worried about the age gap between us, but Natasha was not at all.
“She knew what she wanted and she was a determined character – I kept her feet on the ground and her personality helped me.
“Natasha was determined she was going to fight it and, if it wasn’t for her personality, the cancer would have taken her sooner.”
Nick, a former account clerk, cared full-time for his wife, who also suffered from secondary liver cancer.
The pair enjoyed a trip to Portugal just last month, where Natasha - who previously lived in Westgate Terrace, Whitstable - got to swim with dolphins.
Nick added: “She fought right to the last and she was such a fun person.
“Determined is a word I use a lot, but she knew what she wanted and she was going to get it – she was always the centre of attention, especially at parties.
“I would like to thank everyone who has sent such fantastic messages, which have been a real comfort.”
Funeral arrangements have yet to be made.
