Police were called to Herne Bay High School after pills were found inside a condom – only to learn it was part of a pupil’s artwork.

Officers responded to reports pills had been found at the school inside the rubber contraceptive.

But the tablet-filled condom had in fact fallen from a pupil's highly-commended artwork, based on the 27 club - a group of musicians including Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain - who died aged 27.

School spokesman Alison Clifton said: “This was an A-level piece of work, which was highly commended by the examiners.

"It was subsequently on exhibition at the University of the Creative Arts in Canterbury, where the piece received further praise.

“The piece was from an A-level exam question entitled Multiple Image.

“The student’s piece looked into artwork by Andy Warhol and linked this to the idea of the 27 club, a group of musicians who died at the age of 27 through an excessive lifestyle of drugs and sex.”

Details of the discovery in December last year emerged this week after police were asked about calls to the school.
