A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault, drug driving and theft following a police chase.
Officers were called to a property in Forgefields, Herne Bay at around 6.40am this morning.
One motorist's van was struck by a patrol car as the drama unfolded, with officers seemingly mistaking him for the suspect.
He said: “I was on my way to work and saw a man jump out of a van and be chased down an alleyway by police officers.”
"There were three patrol cars so I couldn't get by, so I had to go a different way, where there were another two police cars. I stopped to let them by, but they just edged closer and closer to me and then one of the cars actually hit the front of my van.”
The motorist went on: "An officer got out and started to shout at me to turn my engine off and then took my keys.
"He asked my name and I told him, and then his colleague saw the other cars down the road and I assume realised they had the wrong person. He said he was sorry and that I could go.”
A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault, criminal damage, taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, drink and drug driving and theft. The suspect remains in custody while officers continue their enquiries.
