Police are hunting for the driver of a car which flipped four times and landed on railings in Herne Bay late on Friday night.
The man fled the scene after careering into the Sea Street roundabout at 10.30pm, leaving his silver MG perched on a metal barrier outside the Double 'R' Fish Bar.
Patrol cars were quickly on the scene and cordoned off the crash site as crowds started to gather.
Student Daniel Dooner, 17, was driving his Toyota Corolla along Sea Street towards Studd Hill when he says he was overtaken by the MG.
He said: “It was just a small dot in my rear view mirror and then was suddenly right up behind me.
“It overtook me near the Co-op but there was another car coming the other way so it had to pull in quickly, forcing me up onto the path.
“His back wheel hit the kerb and chucked the car sideways into the roundabout.
“It flipped four times and then rolled into the railings.
“It was like something you’d see on TV.”
Daniel, who lives in Studd Hill, says the driver of the car attempted to start the car.
He said: “I couldn’t believe he was trying to drive off.
“When that didn’t work he tried getting out of his car but his door wouldn’t open, so he got out the other side, but slipped and hit his head on the railing.
“He got back up and then ran off along Grand Drive.
“The whole thing really shook me up. I’ve never had something like that happen to me before.”
Police were on the scene within minutes and started the search for the driver.
Spokesman Adam Westgarth said: “It appears a silver car collided with a barrier, however, the driver is currently unaccounted for and officers in the area are conducting a search and carrying out local enquiries.”
