A senior councillor has criticised the regeneration of Herne Bay as being “an empty promise with no substance, no excitement and no money.”
Cllr Ron Flaherty told fellow councillors: “All we’ve achieved in three years is widen the bottom of William Street.
“Where is the regeneration? There’s no great excitement from me and there never has been. There’s no 'big bang’ in this regeneration and there never will be.”
Cllr Petter Lee reminded councillors of the £500,000 set aside for improvements to Memorial Park.
And Cllr Robert Bright spoke positively about plans to improve the park.
The comments were made during a discussion on the latest draft of the Herne Bay Area Action Plan (AAP) which is about to go before the city council’s executive. Once adopted it will provide the framework for town development for the next 10 years.
