Two young girls from Herne Bay are preparing for the trip of a lifetime after being selected for the senior England roller hockey squad.
Fifteen-year-old Emily Shepherd and 14-year-old Rebecca Lawrance are bound for Akita, Japan, where the world championships are being held in October.
But with no national funding presently available for the specialist sport, Emily
and Rebecca, who both play for Herne Bay United, will only realise their dream if they can come up with the £2,000 each they require for expenses.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for both of the girls and it would be a shame if they are restricted financially," said Rebecca’s dad Dave.
"It would be great to go and fly the flag for Herne Bay in a place like Japan and any donations from local businesses or anyone to help cover the costs would be very warmly received."
Rebecca and Emily have both played for Herne Bay United from a young age and both have made the amazing progression to the England senior squad via the England girls development squad.
"They have done fantastically well," added Dave.
"Both girls are dedicated to their sport but it is tough with no funding.
"We want to ensure they get the best possible chance to do as much as they can in roller hockey."
