The shock death of a popular pub landlady has sparked a wave of tributes to a woman described as a “real force of nature with the most enormous heart”.

Mum-of-six Petrina Coyston, 52, was the face of the Divers Arms in Herne Bay, which has closed until further notice following her devastating loss.

Floral tributes left outside the pub in Central Parade since news of the tragedy was shared have been displayed in its front window.

Petrina’s husband, Peter, says his wife was “fun-loving, generous and a best friend to everyone”.

“She was loved by so many across the town,” he told KentOnline.

“She was the face of the Divers Arms and the reason it is such a success. She turned it around into the pub it is today, with so many regulars.

“She was very much a people person.

“So many people saw her as a mother and a best friend.”

Petrina, who had four daughters and two sons, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, with the pub sharing the sad news on its Facebook page.

The message has sparked an outpouring of grief, with hundreds paying tribute to Petrina, who was dedicated to supporting the community and causes in need.

Lucyanna Hiscock wrote: “I am devastated to hear this news. Such a beautiful woman, so full of life, who brought such joy to mine.”

Debbie Satchell added: “She was a smashing lady - a real force of nature with the most enormous heart.”

Another tribute revealed the lasting impression Petrina had left on those she had worked alongside.

Lucy Knox wrote: “Such sad news. Petrina was such a wonderful, kind and generous woman who I feel very lucky to have worked with.”

In another message, Petrina was described as an “advocate of live music”, recognising how the pub has hosted a huge number of local acts during its regular music nights.

Among them was Thanet-based Brad Pittance and the Pirates, whose frontman paid tribute to Petrina.

“So sorry to hear this sad news,” he said.

“Petrina was truly lovely and we had some fantastic nights at The Divers Arms that I will always remember.”

Victoria Lashmar added: “What a terrible loss. She was an amazing woman - a force to be reckoned with, with a heart as big as the world.”
