A UFC star is opening a gym and wellness centre next to Kent train station complete with fighting rings, exercise equipment, and a cafe.
Cameron ‘Camchida' Else, originally from Margate, says the Fight the Demon HQ in Herne Bay will offer a mix of fitness, health, and mental wellness services.
The bantamweight athlete, who trains in Las Vegas with some of the sport’s biggest names, told KentOnline: “We’re not here to raise thugs, we’re here to raise good men and women.”
“There are so many gyms that are opening up nowadays and that’s for one reason - they just want your money,” added Mr Else.
“But for us, it will be about getting every individual to reach their full potential.
“Fight the Demon HQ will be more than a gym; it's a comprehensive wellness hub designed to be a welcoming space for all.”
The father-of-three expects the new facility to open at the end of April, taking over the site of the former Judo and Martial Arts School on Station Road, Herne Bay after a £500,000 renovation project.
It will offer mixed martial arts training, hot yoga as well as recovery and sports therapy services and a cafe serving healthy meals on the go.
Following six and a half years in the UK army, Mr Else was medically discharged after becoming deaf in both ears.
He told KentOnline how he has subsequently struggled with PTSD but that getting involved in mixed martial arts was a pivotal moment in his life.
“I was at rock bottom when I realised that life was worth fighting for and that sparked a transformational journey,” said the 36-year-old.
“I got scouted by the number-one gym in the world, Jackson Wink MMA, then moved to Vegas and travelled around the world as a fighter.
“Now legends like John Jones, the current UFC heavyweight champion and Holly Home are my teammates.”
After losing his debut fight in 2012, Mr Else was discouraged but bounced back with a big win against Paddy Pimblett, who had a perfect record at the time.
“I’ve take my experience training under the best, and training with the best I look to bring the best parts into the gym.” continued the fighter.
“As the first UFC fighter from Kent, my goal is to give back to the community and grow MMA in our region.
Mr Else says once the gym is up and running, Fight the Demon will offer three scholarships to kids who have potential to become great fighters.
“For the kids that are selected, we will be in close contact with their school to monitor their behaviour.
