Steve Lovell is impressed with the way Herne Bay have dealt with injuries this season.

Bay moved back into the Isthmian South East play-off places after beating Littlehampton 4-1 at home on Saturday.

Kane Rowland returned from injury but they were without other key men Gil Carvalho (broken thumb), Archie Burnett (knee), Bola Dawodu and Dan Carrington (both groin).

Bay have stayed competitive and head to Sheppey on Saturday (3pm) sitting fourth in the table.

“We’ve had a few injuries that have come at the same time,” said boss Lovell.

“But it’s nice with the depth of squad we’ve got that players have come in and performed.

“We’ve got a good little squad there, a great bunch of lads and they work hard. It’s a good blend.”

Harrison Pont opened the scoring against Littlehampton.

The visitors levelled but goals from Theo Osinfolarin, Mo Kamara and Frankie Smith led Bay to victory.

Michael Salako has been the major threat this season but Bay proved they have goals elsewhere in the team.

“We started well and could have had a few goals in the first five or 10 minutes,” said Lovell.

“You know what it’s like, if you don’t take your chances you always think they’re going to come back into it but it was a good result in the end.

“I was disappointed with the goal we conceded but we are creating quite a lot of chances and we’re taking a decent percentage of them.

“Mo Kamara got his first goal for us and he’s been threatening to do that for a while.

“Theo hadn’t scored for a while before Saturday and Frankie Smith came on and got one and Ponty got the first one.

“The goals were spread around and it’s nice when more than one person gets the goals.

“You don’t want to be reliant on one person.”

Sheppey have had mixed results since their FA Cup adventure ended in the First Round and on Tuesday lost 6-0 at second-placed Three Bridges.

Lovell said: “The next couple of weeks we’ve got Sheppey and Cray Valley, who also got to the First Round.

“They’re all tough games but it’s nice to play them when you’re in a bit of form yourselves as a team.

“We’re looking forward to going over to Sheppey and having a game against them.

“They’re a good side and they’ve beaten some good teams this year.

“When you’ve had a cup run like Sheppey it has pros and cons.

“It’s financially beneficial for the club and from the players’ perspective you want to play in the FA Cup but from a manager’s perspective you can end up quite a few games behind schedule in the league.”
