John Embery says his young Herne Bay side have learnt a lot in their last week of fixtures.

Numerous cancellations in recent weeks meant they had to play three Bostik South games in six days.

They face a similar schedule this week, visiting VCD on Saturday before hosting Hythe on Monday. They are then away to South Park on Thursday.

Joint-boss Embery said: “It’s another tough schedule this week. We have learnt from it this week and the players understand the rest time is key.

“It was always going to be a test last week as we had no recovery time. Even Premier League players moan about having to play in Europe on a Wednesday and a game on Saturday. Our lads also have jobs to go to during the week.”

Bay beat Whyteleafe 2-1 last Thursday but this was followed by Saturday’s 7-0 defeat at Walton Casuals.

They bounced back on Tuesday night with a 4-1 win at home to South Park.

Embery added: “We made three awful mistakes at Walton Casuals. They did not play all week and that was always the concern for us going into that game.

“When I spoke to them (the players) on Friday most of them were stiff as a board.

“The response was brilliant from my players on Tuesday.”
