Sam Denly is waiting to find out if Maidstone United are to retain their interest in Herne Bay striker Jordan Casey.

The 19-year-old, who had spells with Stoke and Chelsea earlier in his career, was Bay’s top scorer with 17 goals last season and has been training with the Ryman League, Premier Division club for a fortnight.

He played for 45 minutes in their 1-0 pre-season friendly against Dagenham on Tuesday night.

Bay boss Denly said: “Maidstone offered Jordan a trial because Jay Saunders (Stones manager) wanted to have a look at him.

“It might have have come a bit early for him but he has a lot of potential and is a good lad.

Ideally I would like to have him for another year but it is a great opportunity. Maidstone are a great club and Jay is a good guy.

“I talk to him all the time about players and am due to speak to him again about Jordan.”

Canterbury City midfielder Sam Staunton is training with Bay and is set to feature in the annual curtain-raiser, the Bruce Smith Shield game against Whitstable at Winch’s Field on Tuesday.
