Herne Bay joint-manager John Embery wants a repeat performance from his side when they host high-flying Cray Wanderers on Saturday.

Bay won 2-1 when they travelled to Horsham last weekend after a run of three straight defeats.

Cray, who are second in Bostik South, thrashed Ashford United 9-1 last week but Embery is undaunted.

He said: “We are looking forward to it. We like having the big games come up. They are the games where you see where your players are at and where you need to improve.

“We have been the better side in most of the recent games where we have lost. I want the same again from my players.”

A goal from Junior Aikhionbare and an own goal in the second half were enough for the three points at Horsham.

New signing Ben Gorham also had the desired effect for Embery and helped shore up Bay’s defence.

He added: “It was a good win. It was a good game and we deserved it. We were excellent against Horsham and it’s like I told my players, if you keep playing like that you will win more than you lose.”

Embery was delighted with Gorham’s impact. He said: “Ben was excellent and didn’t make any mistakes.

“The goals all came quite quickly but we should have scored a lot more.

“We only took two of our chances, which was disappointing.”

Despite the three previous defeats before Horsham, Embery said his side were not short on confidence.

He added: “Against Greenwich Borough we did well so it was good to get the three points in this game.

“We were not lacking in any confidence, it was just the results were not going our way. We had played well in our last couple of matches.”
