John Embery wants more of the same from his Herne Bay side after a thrashing of local rivals Whitstable Town in the Bostik South East.

It was Bay’s second win of the season and they remain six points adrift at the foot of the table.

They will hope to start picking up their home league form, starting on Saturday against East Grinstead Town, as they have lost all seven matches this season.

Joint-manager Embery said: “We just have to keep winning games and we will start climbing the table quickly. If we play like we did on Saturday then that will happen.

“We are at home and are playing well. We need to be mentally strong and have that desire then we should be okay.

“Confidence is really good after that. The only thing is that we keep picking up injuries. Matt Fry again picked up a knock and had to come off after 10 minutes on Saturday.”

Embery was delighted with the way his side played in their derby win over Whitstable that has brought the confidence back to the club.

He hopes it is the start of a turnaround in their fortunes.

Embery said: “Our players were up for it. We got out of the blocks quickly and never looked back.

“We got the ball down and played and they could not cope with that. It was a good performance but it should have been more.

“We totally dominated them from start to finish. Considering our current league position is not great, we applied ourselves very well.

“We got the ball down and played and dealt with their threat in the air well. We should have been 2-0 up before the red card.

“The tackle was disgusting. It was a leg breaker and I don’t like to see that, especially in non-league football as people have work and still have to make a living.

“If he had connected with the player then he would have broken his leg. It was bang out of order and even their manager said so after the game.”

Bay were knocked out of the Kent Senior Cup on Tuesday to Gillingham but Embery had no complaints with the result.

He added: “We had to make some changes on Tuesday but we are not worried about the result. It was good to give players some game time and there was nothing but positives to take from the game.”
