Herne Bay need to cut out individual mistakes if they want to end their winless run, according to joint-manager John Embery.

Bay have not won in five and suffered their worst home defeat of the season on Saturday when they lost 5-1 to Phoenix Sports in Bostik South.

However, Embery believes that score flattered their opponents as his team were chasing the match.

He said: “We have just got to make sure we stop the mistakes. If we cut them out we will be all right as we always know we are capable of scoring goals.

“We will work on a few things in training this week. The game being called off midweek against South Park has given us a bit of extra time to train.

“We can’t keep making personal mistakes and have to do better than that.

“We gave away silly goals – for instance, one of our players took a bad touch and it allowed one of the Phoenix players in to make it 3-1.”

Bay went in 1-1 at half-time but fell 3-1 behind in the second half and, as they tried to get themselves back into the match, the away side added a fourth and fifth.

Embery added: “We went 3-1 down through mistakes and were then chasing the game.

“The score was flattering to the opposition as we could have been two or three goals up. It has been that kind of run for us lately as we could have been out of sight but our luck was out.”

Bay, whose game at South Park on Tuesday night was called off, travel to Carshalton on Saturday.

Embery said he has been eagerly awaiting this match as he believes both teams will get the ball down and try to play football.

“The team we are playing on Saturday are a good footballing side and it will be one of those games that will be good fun for the neutrals,” Embery said.
