Herne Bay joint-manager John Embery expects his players to go out with the right attitude when they play Corinthian-Casuals on Saturday.

Embery said his side did not turn up in their 3-0 defeat at home to Hastings United in the Bostik South last Saturday.

He is now hoping his team will put things right this weekend when they take on the side second in the table.

He said: “I want them to go out with the right attitude. We have got to put our foot in and start winning the ball and we must compete.

“It’s something we didn’t do and I expect them to put it right.

“Maybe they thought it was going to be easy. We have to approach every game with the right attitude and if you don’t do that you will get beaten.”

Embery said his team enjoy playing against the best teams in the league and it shouldn’t be a problem to motivate them.

Their match against Hythe on New Year’s Day was called off due to a waterlogged pitch but the Bay players wanted to get a run out.

He added: “They were all up for it for the Hythe game. Our players had something to prove, they knew they owed it to myself and Jermaine and the club to put things right.

“They are the kind of games we do well in. The players know it is going to be hard and if they do not turn up they will get beaten.

A brace from Davide Rodari and a goal from Sam Beale was enough to give Hastings a comprehensive win over Bay. To make matters worse for the home side, Connor Wilkins was sent off in the 68th minute.

Embery was critical of some refereeing decisions but did not use that as an excuse for his side’s performance.

He said: “At 1-0 the referee gave an awful decision for the penalty.

“It was probably the worst penalty decision I have seen. It put us 2-0 down but we deserved to be behind.

“We changed the formation and literally as we did that Connor Wilkins got sent off. Even their manager said it was the worst sending-off decision he had seen.

“He tried to control the ball and their player has run into him.

“From that point on it was always going to be hard.”

Bay will be without Wilkins on Saturday, while Raphe Brown and Alex Mulrooney-Skinner are struggling with injury.
