Herne Bay have revealed the extent of the injury sustained by striker Kymani Thomas which led to their match against Horsham being abandoned.
Isthmian Premier strugglers Bay saw their league fixture initially delayed - and eventually called off altogether - in the first half after Thomas went to ground at Winch’s Field on Saturday, with the hosts 2-0 down.
Former Dulwich Hamlet youngster Thomas was rushed to hospital and a club statement on Monday confirmed he had suffered a broken tibia and fibula.
It read: “We are happy to learn that forward Kymani Thomas has had surgery on the injury he suffered against Horsham last weekend, which led to the game being abandoned early in the first half.
“Kymani, who has scored 10 goals this season for the Bay, was rushed to hospital on Saturday after a collision on the pitch left him with a serious leg injury, later diagnosed as being a broken tibia and fibula.
“Having joined the club following a successful trial period during the summer, he has quickly become a firm fans’ favourite for his all-energy displays, plus several outstanding goals.
“Knowing that his surgery was scheduled for today, we are delighted to hear that it was a success and that Kymani can now focus on the road to recovery.
“We have truly been touched by the messages from across the Isthmian League and beyond, wishing Kymani well in his bid to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.”
Thomas said: "Surgery done, the process starts now - Alhamdulillah."
Herne Bay also say plans to fundraise for Thomas will be confirmed soon.
The basement boys, managed by Kevin Watson, are due to visit third-bottom Brightlingsea this Saturday in a massive match.
Goalkeeper Jordan Perrin and on-loan Tonbridge midfielder Mason Saunders-Henry will see their one-game suspensions carried over before they become available again for Tuesday’s home derby against Margate.
Teenager Emile Haratbar had started in goal against Horsham before play was abandoned.
Bay's fixture against the Hornets is set to be rearranged in due course.
