Some of Kent football’s biggest names will flock to Winch’s Field on Sunday (1pm) to take part in a testimonial for Herne Bay midfielder Lee Browning.

The 29-year-old was airlifted to hospital after a clash of heads during a Ryman League, Division 1 South game with Ramsgate in March.

A consultation with a specialist neurologist resulted in Browning being told he can’t play sport again for fear of brain damage and loss of sight.

The self-employed carpenter has also been unable to drive since the accident and the game at Winch’s Field will raise cash to support him, with a previous charity game having benefited the Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance which took Browning to hospital.

Tommy Warrilow, Browning’s former Tonbridge Angels boss will lead a Select XI of players who have played with and against Browning (pictured) during his career against last season’s Bay squad, with manager Sam Denly also planning to play.

Denly said: “I’ll dust my boots off and although I’m not planning to start, hopefully I get on and it will be a good day, with a big crowd. It should be a decent game, too.”

Gillingham legends Andy Hessenthler and Nicky Southall and former Wales international Steve Lovell are included in Warrilow’s squad along with the likes of Maidstone keeper Lee Worgan, Andy Pugh, Carl Rook and Adrian Stone, plus ex-Bay loan striker Frannie Collin.
