KENT LEAGUE football club Herne Bay are looking for a new manager after the resignation of Simon Bryant after just one full season in charge.

The 40-year-old physical education officer resigned immediately after the club’s 2-1 defeat by Maidstone United in the final home match of the Go Travel Kent League season on Wednesday night.

Bryant who took a month off recently due to personal problems said: “It’s the parting of the ways, but I feel it is the best thing for both me and the club.

“The chairman, John Bathurst, was great and we parted company amicably. Things could have gone better, but it’s time for me to wish the club all the best and head off into the sunset.”

Bryant added:” My circumstances are different, both personally and professionally, and I can’t commit myself to the club.

“My job in the prison service is changing which means moving from my present base in Dover.

“I have to sort out the rest of my life away from football, but feel quite upbeat about things.”

Speculation existed that a change might be on the cards after a disappointing season ended with three successive home defeats against Hythe, Whitstable and Maidstone.
