John Embery believes Herne Bay are the best attacking team in Bostik South.
Bay’s 5-3 win at Ashford on Tuesday took their goal tally to 38 in 17 league matches – a record only bettered by high-flying Corinthian Casuals (40).
However, their position in mid-table owes a lot to the fact they’ve also conceded 36. Only six sides have let in more.
“There’s not a better team in the league than us going forward,” said joint-manager Embery.“You’re guaranteed goals when you come to watch us.
“We deserved to win at Ashford but we made personal errors.
“Going forward, though, some of the goals were sensational. Even I was taken aback. Some of the football was outstanding and for me and Jermaine Darlington to say that, we’re their biggest critics.
“Every single goal was quality but we let them back in too easily. We were open at the back, didn’t defend well at times and got punished for our mistakes.
“Our biggest issue has been conceding goals but going forward, we’re the second-top goalscorers. I can’t grumble.
“To score five goals away from home, even though Ashford are struggling, is pleasing.”
Herne Bay have now won three of their last four games.
Embery said: “We’re only four points off the play-offs and we’ve got to keep the momentum.
“In our next two games we’ve got Molesey (21st) and East Grinstead (22nd) so hopefully we win those games. That could drive us right into the top-four because the other teams have got hard games.
“We’re almost back to full strength now. Connor Wilkins, Danny Leonard and Kingsley Aikhionbare, who are all key players for us, are coming back at the right time and you could see that on Tuesday.
“Connor was involved in a few of the goals, Kingsley scored, Danny Leonard was involved in another one and we seem to be free-flowing with goals.
“We’ve just got to make sure we can be a bit more defensive and hopefully we can push right on.”
