Adam Woollcott faces a lengthy lay-off with an ankle injury.

The Herne Bay midfielder was carried off late in the 2-1 Ryman League, Division 1 South defeat at Corinthian Casuals on Saturday and faces up to two months out with a bad sprain and damaged ligaments.

Boss Sam Denly said: “He was taken out by a clumsy challenge with about 10 minutes left and I had already used all our substitutes.

“Adam will be a big miss for us because he has been a revelation, probably our best player so far this season and playing really

well.

“He has been with a few clubs but seems to have re-invented himself this season and been outstanding.”

Woollcott’s injury, conceding less than a minute after taking the lead and losing the game against 10-man Casuals added up to a triple blow for Denly.

He added: “It was disappointing, after scoring first, then giving away a bad goal just 40 seconds later.”

“It seems to be a mental thing and we must do something to stop it.

“Casuals then had a player sent off before half-time and we went out and dominated the first 25 minutes, knocking at the door all the time, only for them to then get a second.”

Bay’s trip to Sittingbourne on Tuesday night was called off at 6.30pm due to a frozen pitch.

Denly said: “We were all there and ready to play. It was all right at 4pm but the right decision, as it was rock hard with no chance of playing the game.”

Bay host Guernsey in a lunchtime kick off (1pm) on Saturday.

The Channel Islanders were humbled 6-0 at home by Tooting on Wednesday evening, a result which took the South London club top.
