Series two of a hit BBC drama set in Hythe will be released this month.

Back to Life was created by and stars Daisy Haggard as Miri, a 36-year-old woman who has returned to her home town after a lengthy prison sentence.

She moves back in with her mum and dad, played by Geraldine James and Richard Durden, and attempts a fresh start at life.

But as Miri tries to move on from her dark past her neighbours make it a difficult job, having not forgotten what happened all those years ago.

Hythe acts as Miri's home town and many familiar sites were spotted throughout series one, which aired on BBC Three in 2019.

Filming took place across the district, including Fisherman’s beach in Hythe, Abbot’s Cliff in Folkestone - its sound mirrors are repeatedly shown - and in Dungeness and Lydd on Sea.

Several references are also made to Hythe, including a made-up paper called the Hythe Enquirer and concerns from Miri’s dad that Hythe could become the ‘new Margate’.

A CV that Miri puts together also lists her address as Hythe.

Back to Life, co-written by Haggard and Perrier Award winner Laura Solon, received critical acclaim and holds a 100% approval rating on critic website Rotten Tomatoes.

It has also been nominated for an Emmy award.

It was added to Netflix earlier this year and earned a whole new legion of fans.

Filming for the second season started in the district in March, with movie maker trucks and trailers spotted in Folkestone and Hythe, including at the Harbour Arm.

Today, Haggard announced the series will be available on BBC iPlayer from August 31.

It will also air weekly on BBC One at 10.35pm from the same date.

A trailer for the new series sees Miri starting a new job and possibly a new romance.

Her mum is also shown questioning whether she is the most 'hated' woman in Hythe.
