A lynx which went missing after escaping his enclosure at a zoo has been found.

Former Port Lympne Reserve resident Flaviu chewed his way out of Dartmoor Zoo in Devon and had been roaming free for three weeks.

Keepers at the Devon zoo had set up 20 cameras to help trace him.

But Devon and Cornwall Police today confirmed he was returned to the zoo yesterday morning.

The two-year-old wild cat had moved into the Dartmoor Zoo just hours before he escaped.

Staff used bedding belonging to its mother and broadcasting recordings of her noises to try and lure him back.

The incident occurred less than 18 hours after the Carpathian lynx had arrived at the zoo.

The search involved drones, night vision cameras, tranquilliser darts, humane traps and helicopters following track marks and positive sightings.

But instead of being duped by the traps loaded with meat, Flaviu pinched the bait and ran away.
