Planning permission is being sought to create a natural swimming pond at a farm near Hythe.

If granted, the pond will be built at Staple Farm Barn, in Sandling Road, in the village of Postling, along with an oak outbuilding.

The owner of the farm took it over in 2012 and has since restored it.

He now wants to add the natural pond to the garden.

Planning documents, submitted to Folkestone and Hythe District Council (FHDC), read: "The intention is to create a natural pond as a means of improving the biodiversity of the area, to complement the meadow planting on the adjacent land, but which is also suitable for swimming."

Postling Parish Council has no objection to the application.

Work on both the pond and outbuilding have already started, as the owner did not realise planning permission was needed.

All work has since halted.

The plans were submitted to FHDC in February and a decision is expected by next month.
