A run-away sheep caused chaos on a busy road after it got loose from its field – and held up an ambulance on blue lights.

Drivers looked on in amazement as the woolly wanderer journeyed along the road, ignoring the vehicles around and behind it.

The situation on Hythe Road – the hill between Westenhanger and Hythe – got more complicated when an ambulance with blue lights and sirens on was forced to slow down to trotting pace behind the fluffy obstacle.

Despite the 'shear' audacity of the hold-up, there was no hint of sheepishness from the culprit – who was eventually shifted further down the road.

One onlooker said: "I don't actually know if the ambulance driver was on an emergency call or if they were just safeguarding the sheep's welfare.

"But it brought a smile to the faces of a few drivers."

This is not the first time that sheep have caused carnage around the county.

In Faversham, supermarket shoppers were given a surprise visit by two visitors.

The two animals may have been tempted to peruse the goods in Tesco and Morrisons – but only managed to get as far as the car park.

Speaking to KentOnline in December 2021, Angela Goodwin Long described witnessing the sheep roaming South Road at school rush hour.

“We were sitting in traffic and out of nowhere came these two massive sheep - they weren’t little ones and it was so funny,” she said.

“It was by the Morrisons car park but apparently they had been to Tesco as well.

“Everyone has been saying they were doing their Christmas shopping. They didn’t look stressed or anything.

“They had plenty of people coming up behind them but they just couldn’t catch them."
