A number of prospective buyers have placed an interest in a town centre former Aldi store.

The 1,739 sqm shop, found in Hythe's High Street, has been empty since the end of September when the German brand moved into its new store on the out of town Kengate Industrial Estate.

The former Aldi store in Hythe is up for sale

It is now on sale for £2.2m.

It is also being advertised to let, with a price of £180,000 per annum.

The shop is being marketed by Cradick Retail on 'the instructions of Aldi'.

A spokesman for the agency has revealed that there has been a fair amount of interest in the unit.

He said: "We're talking to various parties about it. But it's confidential and until we're further down the line we can't comment further."

This comes after Cllr Laura Davison (Lab) asked Folkestone and Hythe District Council's cabinet member for economy, Cllr David Wimble (Ind), if he had any information about 'the future of the now empty Aldi store in the centre of Hythe' at the meeting of the full council.

He replied no.

The large unit has two floors, with the ground floor measuring 1,037.8sqm and the first floor 701.8sqm.

Owner Aldi say they would consider splitting the premises, therefore providing more than one new business opportunity in the town.

An Aldi spokesman said: "We continue to market the site of our former Hythe store and will keep the local community updated on its future."

Another Aldi opened shop in Kent last week in Deal, where Olympian James Foad attended the official opening.
