A town clerk's told council colleagues he hopes they continue to 'capitalise on the amazing potential of Hythe' during his final week in the role.
Nick Hilditch described his resignation from Hythe Town Council last week as 'bittersweet' after three years in the post.
The clerk, who is also a keen runner, worked his last day in the position on Tuesday, November 13.
He said: "It has been a privilege and an honour to have been town clerk for the beautiful and historic town of Hythe.
"I will treasure memories of the kindness that Hythe residents have shown, the amazing pageantry that is involved with being town clerk to a Cinque Port and the magnificent parks and facilities that I have been pleased to manage.
"Some of the projects that I have helped to implement, such as the wildflower meadow at Eaton Lands, the play equipment at Palmarsh, the rededication of the Shepway Cross and the inlaid poppy at the war memorial have given me great satisfaction."
Mr Hilditch is also well-known for organising the weekly Folkestone park run on the Leas and a member of the Hawkinge Allotment Society.
The 60-year-old added that people are the most important element of the job: "As local council officers, we do meaningful work that makes a measurable difference to the community. That is genuine job satisfaction and that is why it almost seems perverse to leave.
"This summer I had a milestone birthday while on holiday with my family, and it felt like the right time to move on to the next stage in my life.
"I will still be involved in various local projects, but I will not be going back into full-time work, nor do I intend to stand as a councillor.
"My wish for you is that you capitalise on the amazing potential of Hythe. Be change makers, and create a magnificent future.
"I will not be disappearing. You might see me shopping on the High Street, or dancing to swing music by the bandstand, or running along the seafront.
"I am sure that the town will continue to prosper, and I offer sincere best wishes to my successor."
Deputy town clerk Margaret Stewart will now step up to the role of town clerk, while the council is set to employ a new responsible financial officer to manage finances, and an administration assistant for general office duties.
