This heartbreaking image shows a seagull with a fishing hook caught in its beak.
The poor bird was spotted on the seafront between Hythe and Sandgate at about 7pm yesterday evening .
Hythe resident Billy Sales, who shared a picture of the injured creature on Facebook, said whoever is responsible should be “ashamed”.
He said: “This is what happens when you leave fish hooks on the beach!
“Whoever does this should be ashamed of themselves because you’re harming innocent creatures.”
He told KentOnline it looked like that seagull may have swallowed the hook.
The RSPCA says “fishing litter” – such as hooks, weights and line – causes injury and death to thousands of wild animals every year.
The animal charity warns hooks can become embedded in - or even pierce - the skin, while weights can be swallowed, causing injury and poisoning.
Anglers are urged to ensure they take fishing lines home and do not leave baited tackle unattended.
