Almost £1,000 was raised during a charity quiz night where local journalists vied against teachers.
More than 100 people filled the school hall at Lympne Primary near Hythe on Friday evening.
It was organised by KentOnline’s head of news south east, Phil Hayes, who is running the Edinburgh Marathon for the MS Society at the end of May.
The raffle proved particularly popular, with prizes including an overnight stay and breakfast at The Dog at Wingham, near Canterbury, and a three-course lunch at The Pig at Bridge.
Dad-of-two Phil, from Folkestone, said: “I was completely overwhelmed by the turnout and the amount of money we were able to raise.
“I’ve seen the huge impact MS can have on people close to me.
“That includes our reporter James Pallant, who has bravely written about his experiences since being diagnosed with the condition in October, just weeks before his 30th birthday.”
In total, £975 was donated on the night, which will be added to the £978 Phil has already collected through his JustGiving page.
The 35-year-old added: “I only set out with a target to raise £500 - but now we are on almost four times that amount. It’s incredible.
“Thank you so much to everyone who came along to the quiz, to the school for letting us use the hall, to my father-in-law Steve Ridgway for being a superb quiz master - and to all the businesses who donated such amazing prizes.”
The raffle also included prizes provided by Chapeldown, Shepherd Neame, Bluewater, The Marlowe, Kent Tribute Festival, Monsterslam, Unit 1 microbar, the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway, Simpsons’ Wine Estate, the Leas Cliff Hall and The Naughty Dog bistro.
A table of Lympne Primary teachers were victorious in a bonus round to build the most impressive space rocket using a plastic bottle, tin foil and other arts and crafts items.
It was a competitive quiz with 14 teams in total taking part.
But overall it was the journalists from the Kentish Gazette who got the most points, each taking home a bottle of wine.
Phil will be running the marathon with his Scottish cousin-in-law - also called Phil - on Sunday, May 25.
