A Michelin-starred Kent restaurant has been named among the UK's best fine-dining destinations by travel website Tripadvisor.

Since opening in 2019, Hide and Fox has garnered glowing reviews for the quality of cooking being produced by chef Allister Barsby at the former general store in Saltwood, near Hythe.

The restaurant - which bills itself as home to "modern British cuisine served in an intimate and relaxed environment" - has been ranked third in the Top 10 Fine Dining Restaurants in the UK list compiled by Tripadvisor for 2022. It was also named the 12th best in Europe.

It found its way into the Michelin Guide foodie bible in 2021, with inspectors describing it as a venue that "celebrates all the best things about Kent".

This year it retained its one-star Michelin rating, with its entry in the Guide advising readers: "Start your night with a cocktail at what was once the village shop and is now a delightful neighbourhood restaurant with a contemporary style.

"One side of the room retains its original wooden fitted shelves - now filled with wines - and large monochrome prints decorate the walls.

"It’s run by an experienced couple, with Alice leading the charming serving team and Allister working away in the kitchen.

"This is an experienced chef who has the courage to know when to hold back; instead, taking a measured approach which demonstrates a sound understanding of classic techniques, skilfully allied with modernity."

The 2022 Best of the Best Restaurants are calculated based on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings for restaurants on Tripadvisor collected from July 2021 through June 2022, as well as an additional editorial process.
